Model: ALL Date: APRIL, 1991

KEY POINTS: BRAKE DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR PROCEDURES

ISSUE:

Unnecessary replacement of brake discs and/or pads.

ACTION:

Diagnose and repair the customer complaint as follows:

Brake Conditions:

"Judder". This condition is any combination of:

^ rumble noise
^ brake pedal pulsation
^ harsh vibration felt through the steering wheel

Repair according to the following conditions -

^ Creeping Against the Brakes (i.e. at a yield or stop sign):

- No action. This is a characteristic of the brake pad material and disc brakes in general.

^ Braking From Highway Speeds:

- Confirm fault with road test.
- Identify if caused by front or rear brakes.

NOTE: Front brake problems will be felt through the steering wheel.

Test for rear brake problems by lightly applying the brakes with the vehicle on a wheel free lift and running at the equivalent road speed. If pedal pulsation is felt, the rear brakes require repair.
