Seats - Seat Back Latch Rattle

ISSUE:

Excessive movement/vibration on both seat backs resulting in a rattling noise.


ACTION:

To prevent seat back vibration, star washers are used at the seat back pivot beginning with VIN 180970.

To install the washers on pre-VIN 180970 vehicles, use the following procedure:

1. Remove seat assembly from vehicle.

2. Remove both left and right-hand pivot covers.

3. Working on one side at a time, remove set screw (JXL 106121/J) and flat washer (WC 106046/J).





4. Install star washer (JZW 100016) with the dome facing outward under the flat washer (fig. 1). Replace set screw (JXL 106121/J).

5. Tighten screw to 6 to 7.5 ft.lbs.

6. Perform the above operation on the other side of the seat and on the two sides of the other seat.

7. Install seats and check that the rattle no longer occurs.
