Air Injection Pump: Service and Repair
Air Pump Replacement And Belt Adjustment:
NOTE: Number references in text specify numbered components in image. Air pump is not serviceable. In event of failure, replace pump as a unit.
1. Remove right air cleaner cover.
2. Loosen adjuster rod bolt (5) and remove adjuster rod lock nut (6).
3. Remove drive belt.
4. Remove pump pulley retaining bolts (2) and remove pulley (3).
CAUTION: Do not use a screwdriver or wedge to pry off pulley. Severe damage to pump filter element will result.
5. Pivot pump away from engine.
6. While supporting pump, remove mounting bolt (7). Retrieve spacers and washers.
7. Disconnect diverter valve vacuum, air rail and air filter dump hoses.
8. Remove sealing ring from metal sleeve on diverter valve air rail hose connection. Discard ring.
9. Lift pump assembly (4) from engine.
10. Remove diverter valve and install in new pump.
11. Place pump in position on engine. Install mounting bolt with spacers and washers correctly positioned.
12. Connect diverter valve vacuum hose. Fit new sealing ring to metal sleeve. Connect air rail and air filter dump hoses.
13. Install pump pulley.
14. Install and adjust drive belt.
