Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Description and Operation

PCV System:

PURPOSE
The crankcase ventilation system purges blowby gases from the crankcase, recirculating them through the intake system rather than venting to atmosphere.

OPERATION
Fumes are scavenged by vacuum through a filter in the engine breather and delivered to both left and right intake manifolds. Flow is regulated by a control (PCV) valve, in-line between engine breather and vacuum source.
