Removal and Installation

1. Disconnect throttle cable at throttle turntable.

Engine Compartment:

2. Remove throttle linkage rods and center engine shield.
3. Remove bolts securing cruise control actuator to A/C compressor and disconnect actuator wire harness connector.
4. Disconnect vacuum hose from actuator and lay actuator aside.
5. Remove ignition wires.

Marelli Distributor:

6. Remove vent hoses from distributor cap and remove cap.
7. Loosen air pump belt adjusting bracket and remove belt from A/C compressor.
8. Remove A/C compressor mounting bolts, two front and two rear, and carefully lift compressor and move it forward slightly. (It is not necessary to disconnect any freon hoses). This will give access to front two spark plugs.

NOTE: Before removing spark plugs, inspect around each plug and remove any debris that may fall into combustion chamber when spark plug is removed.

9. Remove spark plugs. Be careful of vacuum advance unit.

NOTE: Snap-On tool # FSX1220, works very well for this task.

10. It is recommended that a compression test is done when spark plugs are removed.

Checking Spark Plug For Wear, Damage, Or Deposits:

11. Check and adjust spark plugs before refitting. Spark plug gap should be 0.64 mm (0.025 in)

12. When refitting spark plugs, start by hand. Be sure to avoid any crossthread. Tighten plugs to:

9 - 12 Nm (7 - 9 ft lb)

13. Refit A/C compressor and belt. Adjust belt tension.
14. Refit distributor cap and vent hoses.
15. Refit ignition wires. Be sure each boot is fully seated.
16. Refit vacuum hose to cruise control actuator and reconnect actuator wire harness connector.
17. Refit actuator to A/C compressor.
