86-118Engine Harness - Damage Due To Air Cleaner Interference
MODEL: 92MY XJS
DATE: 8/92
ISSUE:
Engine harness damage due to the harness coming in contact with the sharp edges of the air cleaner assembly (especially the front bottom edge, Fig. 1) on vehicles between VIN's 179740 - 184573.
ACTION:
At VIN 184574 a tie strap was introduced (ADU 9028) to secure the harness to the air cleaner positioning bracket, located at the front of the "All bank air cleaner, (Fig. 2, shown with the air cleaner housing removed).
The engine harness on vehicles between the above VIN range should be checked for signs of contact with the "A" bank air cleaner. If there is contact, perform the following:
^ Remove the right side air cleaner.
^ Re-tape the engine harness to protect any exposed wiring.
^ Re-route the harness away from the air cleaner as shown in Fig. 2.
^ Secure the harness to the air cleaner positioning bracket as shown in Fig. 2. DO NOT over tighten the tie wrap, as this could result in wire damage.
^ Install the air cleaner assembly. Make sure that the harness is clear of any sharp edges of the air cleaner assembly.
