Batteries - Discharge Due To Frequent Short Trips - Install Larger Batteries.

MODEL 90-92 MY Sedans

ISSUE:
Frequent short duration trips on Sedan Range vehicles between VIN's 594576 - 653469 can result in battery discharge.

ACTION:
Replace the original Varta DIN 55 battery (JLM 10453) or Interstate battery with a Varta DIN 66 battery (JLM 10455) using the following operation:

^ Take note of all AM and FM stations for re-programming purposes.

^ Make sure that the ignition is turned off.

^ Disconnect the vehicle battery, negative terminal first.

^ Disconnect the battery vent pipe.

^ Remove the battery hold down strap mountings, bracket and heatshield. Discard these items.

^ Remove the battery and battery pad.

^ Remove the four bolts securing the battery tray. Remove the tray and discard.

^ Remove the bolt securing the wiring harness to the firewall (above the battery location).

^ Install the new battery tray (DBC 10489) and secure using four bolts (FS 108121/J).

^ Install the upper battery securing bracket to the firewall using the two countersunk screws (FS 105121/J).

^ Install the new Varta DIN 66 battery (JLM 10455).

NOTE:
The new battery does not incorporate a pad below it.


^ Install the new heatshield (DBC 10697) and battery hold down bracket (DBC 10525), routing the harness and vent tube below and behind it. Secure using two nuts (FN 10841/J) and two bolts (SH 108121/J). Do not trap the harness or vent tube.

^ Connect the battery vent tube.

^ Connect the battery cables, negative cable last.

^ Obtain radio security code from under the hood. Code radio and re-program the stations.


WARRANTY INFORMATION:

Use this information only when installing the Varta DIN 66 battery to the previously mentioned VIN range.
