Jaguar Cars Exports Ltd. has determined that in a range of 1992 MY XJS vehicles, the possibility exists that the engine harness may come in contact with the air conditioning expansion valve protection plate, which could cause chafing of the harness which may result in an electrical short and possible engine stalling. Under some circumstances, engine stalling might contribute to an accident without warning.
* This recall affects Western Zone vehicles/Dealers only. All Eastern Zone vehicles were modified at Port of Entry.

1992 MY XJS VIN's: 179737 - 182166
You may be required to perform recall campaign work on a vehicle that was not invoiced to your dealership (i.e., transient owner, etc.).
If this occurs, normal repair procedures should be followed.
Owner Notification
All owners on record will be issued recall notifications via first class mail commencing September 20, 1991. Included will also be a letter advising them of this condition. (A copy of the owner1s letter is shown).
Owners will be asked to contact their selling dealer (or nearest authorized dealer) and make an appointment for repair work. They will also be asked to sign and return the "Campaign Claim" form to the dealer.
NOTE:
A dealer must not refuse to perform or delay an open campaign repair on any vehicle due to the unavailability of a campaign claim form or other documentation.

No parts are required for this recall action.
Warranty Information
Complete the applicable "Campaign Claim" form (see Section K of the Warranty Manual). Insert in the "Repair Code" box on the "Campaign Claim" the appropriate repair code. Direct entry dealers should refer to their instructional guide.
Repair Code BW includes labor time for the R367 repair plus drive-in/out time.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
Reposition the A/c expansion valve protection bracket away from the engine as follows:
1. Locate the A/C expansion valve in the engine compartment. (Fig. 1 A).
2. Locate the flanged protection plate immediately below the expansion valve.
3. Using a suitable lever (pry bar Snap-On P/N SPB24), insert against the flange of the protection plate, push down firmly and bend the bracket as close to the bulkhead as possible. Allow the bracket to spring back slightly, (Fig. 1 B).
CAUTION:
Ensure that the heater hose is not trapped behind the bracket and do not pry against the expansion valve pipe fittings.
4. Inspect the bracket to ensure that it is clear of the heater hose and engine harness.
NOTE:
Adhere a completed (Zone and Dealer numbers) R367 Campaign Completion Identification Label to the rearmost crossbrace of the underside of the hood.
All affected Eastern Zone and some affected Western Zone vehicles have already been modified at Port of Entry, however R367 Campaign Completion Labels may not have been adhered. Please inspect all affected vehicles and adhere a completion label if necessary Use the following Zone/Dealer codes if you find a vehicle that was modified at Port of Entry but has no label:
Eastern Zone Port of Entry: 81 9997
Western Zone Port of Entry: 83 9996
