Fault Codes - Warranty Guidelines
3-131Warranty Fault Code - Guidelines
MODEL: ALL
DATE: 7/94
ISSUE:
Warranty claim fault codes must accurately describe the cause of the fault not the effect. All parts and repair operations directly related to a fault must be entered on the same claim.
ACTION:
Each fault code with the related parts and operation numbers must be entered on one claim.
Use the following examples as a guide for preparing warranty claims.
1. Customer Complaint - "Car won't start"
Diagnosis - A faulty panel light dimmer module caused excessive battery current drain. The battery failed testing after recharge.
Repair - The dimmer module and battery is replaced.
Claim Submission - One claim, fault coded to the dimmer module as it is the cause of the fault.
The battery and dimmer module part numbers and the relevant repair operations are entered on the claim.
2. Customer complaint - "Fluid leaking under the car"
Diagnosis - Transmission fluid leaking from the front seal and coolant leaking from the water pump seal.
Repair - The transmission is removed, a new front seal installed, then the transmission replaced. The water pump is replaced.
Claim Submission - Two claims, although the customer had only one complaint there were two distinct faults.
The first claim, fault coded to the transmission seal, contains the parts and repair operation numbers required for the replacement of the transmission seal. The second claim, fault coded to the water pump seal, contains the parts and repair operations required to replace the water pump.
