Differential Noise - Introduction of

Sound Insulation Pads

MODEL: Sedan Range

DATE: 2/93

ISSUE:

Differential whine at 45-50 MPH and 65-70 MPH.

Sound insulation pads for the body panels directly below the fuel tank have been introduced at VIN 661639.

ACTION:

To reduce differential whine on pre-VIN 661639 vehicles, adhere sound insulation pads (BEC 23716) in the trunk of the vehicle.

Use the following procedure to install the insulation pad:

^ Remove the fuel tank and the rubber tank supports (Refer to Repair Operation 19.55.01 in the Sedan Range Repair Manual). Be careful not to damage the fuel gauge sending unit and fuel pump module.

CAUTION:
This procedure results in the presence of fuel/fuel vapor which is extremely flammable. All necessary safety precautions must be taken.

^ Remove the paper backing from the insulation pads and position the pads on the trunk space floor, directly below the fuel tank (Fig. 1).

^ Using a hot air blower, shape and fully adhere the pads, (Fig. 2). Allow the pad adhesive to completely dry.

^ Install the rubber fuel tank supports and the fuel tank.
