Fuel Gauge - Does Not Read Full
88-18Fuel Gauge - Does Not Read Full - Recalibrate Using JDS
MODEL:
93 MY XJ6
DATE:
5/93
ISSUE:
The fuel gauge on some 1993 XJ6 vehicles reads below full when fuel tank is completely full.
Affected vehicles are between VINs 667829 and 672000 and have instrument packs built prior to September 3, 1993.
ACTION:
The fuel gauge on affected vehicles can be recalibrated by using JDS software issue DBC 4070.
In order to extract the instrument pack build date, use the following procedure:
^ Switch the ignition on.
^ Hold the trip computer CLEAR button down and cycle the MPH/KPH button back and forth three times.
^ The build date will then be displayed on the LCD as "day-month-year".
Example:
If display is 200892, the build date is 20 August 92.
If the instrument pack build date is prior to 30992 (3 September, 92), recalibrate the fuel gauge using the following procedure:
^ Load JDS software issue DBC 4070, disc A.
^ From the main menu, select "VEHICLE SET-UP", then "INSTRUMENT PACK FUEL LEVEL CALIBRATION".
^ Connect JDS to the vehicle through Pod 7 and the data link connector, located in the trunk under the battery tray.
^ Follow the JDS prompts and load disc C.
^ When JDS asks "Are you sure you wish to recalibrate?", answer "Yes".
^ Follow the JDS prompts until the display reads "Instrument pack calibration completed".
^ If the display reads "Check the fuel gauge and associated wiring", the gauge has already been recalibrated. Press ENTER and the display will read "No instrument pack calibration needed".
^ When the procedure is complete, switch the ignition off, disconnect JDS and replace the data link blanking plug.
