Remove

Catalytic Converters - XJS 4.0L:

- Drive the vehicle onto the ramp.
- Remove the cable of the exhaust oxygen sensor from the clips situated along the right hand wing flange.
- Disconnect the connector of the oxygen sensor cable.
- Raise the ramp.
- Remove the oxygen sensor from the downpipe catalyst assembly (1).
- Loosen the four nuts which secure the downpipe flanges to the exhaust manifold.

Exhaust Pipe Joint:

- Remove three of the nuts and leave the fourth to support the system (2).
- Remove three nuts and bolts from one of the rear flange type joints at the rear of the underfloor catalytic converters (3).
- Remove two nuts and bolts from the other flange type joint at the rear of the underfloor catalytic converters; loosen the third nut and bolt.
- With the help of an assistant to support one end of the system, remove the two remaining fixings.
- Carefully separate the assembly from the manifold flanges and rear section flange joints.
- Remove the assembly from the vehicle.
- Remove the sealing rings from the manifold flange joints and the olives from the rear flange joints.
