Excessive Odors -- Fuel and Emissions

Vehicle has excessive "rotten egg" smell. Raw fuel (gasoline) can be smelled. Excessive odors do not necessarily indicate excessive emissions.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
Faulty purge valve.
Liquidfuel in carbon canister.
Fuel tank vent system blocked.
Poor seal on gas cap.

ACTION
Check Evaporative system. Evaporative Emissions System
PCV hose blocked or plugged.



POSSIBLE CAUSE
PCV valve plugged or stuck.

ACTION
Check PCV system. Positive Crankcase Ventilation



POSSIBLE CAUSE
Contaminated catalyst.

ACTION
Check for missing or damaged fuel fillpipe restrictor.



POSSIBLE CAUSE
Excessive Emissions.
