Throttle Body: Adjustments

Check And Adjust
- Open the bonnet and fit wing protection.
- Slacken the clips securing the air intake elbow hoses to the breather and stepper motor and disconnect hoses.
- Slacken the clip securing the elbow hose to the air flow meter.
- Slacken the clip securing the intake hose to the throttle housing.
- Remove the securing nut from the elbow mounting bracket and displace the elbow assembly from the air flow meter.
- Disconnect sensor multi-plugs from the elbow assembly and remove the assembly from the throttle housing.
- Slacken the locknut securing the throttle cable to the manifold bracket.
- Ensure the throttle cable does not restrict the linkage adjustment.
- Slacken the throttle stop locknut.
- Using a feeler gauge adjust the throttle stop screw to obtain an airgap of 0.05 mm (0.002 in) between the butterfly valve and the throttle housing.
- Adjust the stop and tighten the throttle stop locknut.
- Recheck the butterfly valve setting.
- Fit and align the full throttle setting adjustment tool JD 131 to the throttle stop plate.

- Ensure the pointer aligns with the idle mark "I" on the throttle linkage (1).
- Slacken the full throttle stop locknut.

- Fully open the throttle and adjust the full throttle adjusting screw to align the pointer of the special tool to mark "A" for automatic vehicles or "M" for manual vehicles (1).
- Release the throttle linkage and tighten the full throttle stop locknut.
- Remove the full throttle setting tool.
- Tighten the throttle cable locknut.
- Check and adjust the throttle potentiometer using JDS.
- Fit and align the elbow and hose assembly to the throttle housing, position and tighten the securing clip.
- Connect the elbow to the air flow meter and tighten securing clip.
- Seat the elbow to the rubber mounting and fit and tighten the securing nut.
- Reconnect the breather and stepper motor hoses and secure.
- Run the engine until normal operating temperature is reached and switch off.

Fig. 3:

- Disconnect the coolant thermistor multi-plug connector at the thermostat housing.
- Connect a 100 ohm 1/4 watt resistor across the multi-plug connections.
- Ensure the leads of the resistor do not touch any metal parts of the vehicle.
- Switch the ignition "ON" and wait 10 seconds.
- The idle speed stepper motor should now be fully wound in, verify by holding the motor and feeling for vibration.
- With the ignition still "ON" disconnect the idle speed stepper motor harness multi-plug connector.
- Remove the resistor from the thermistor harness connector and reconnect the connector to the thermistor.
- Start the engine and if necessary adjust the idle speed actuator air bypass screw with a 7/32 in Allen key to 550 to 600 rpm.
- Stop the engine.
- Reconnect the idle speed stepper motor connector.
- Close the bonnet.
