44-13Transmission Fluid Leaks Due To A Blocked Transmission Vent Pipe
MODEL: XJ-S
DATE: 6/91
ISSUE:
The transmission breather pipe can be blocked/kinked by the foam pad above the transmission. The pressure build-up causes a fluid leak at the joint of the two piece dipstick tube.
ACTION:
To check that the rubber extension hose for the transmission breather pipe is not kinked or blocked by the foam pad above the transmission, perform the following operation:
^ Raise vehicle on a lift.
^ Loosen and move both intermediate exhaust pipes to gain access to the transmission mount crossmember.
^ Support the transmission and engine assembly with a transmission jack.
^ Remove the crossmember and spring mount.
^ Lower the transmission approximately 2" to gain access to the breather pipe.
^ Position the breather pipe so that it is not blocked/kinked by the foam pad above the transmission.
^ Clean off any fluid from the dipstick tube and the transmission case. Raise the transmission to its normal position.
^ Install the transmission mount and crossmember assembly. Making sure that the reaction brackets are adjusted correctly.
^ Replace the exhaust intermediate pipes. Check transmission fluid level and top-up if necessary.
^ Check that the rear mount is centralized and free to move without disturbing the crossmember assembly.
