Security System

System layout and features
The new original equipment security system provides both audible and visual alarms. In addition to the standard security and convenience features, the system can be equipped with dealer-programmable convenience features and dealer-installed accessory security features. The system is supplied with two radio frequency (RF) key fob transmitters.

Security System General Layout:

Audible and visual alarms (FULL ALARM)
The audible alarm is an intermittent siren and quiet zone lasting 90 seconds, then repeating twice. The visual alarm consists of flashing the headlights (low beams), the side lights and tail lights, the turn signals, and the interior lights.

Standard convenience features
Remote lock/unlock, remote headlight low beams ON and panic alarm are standard features.

Other standard features
Other system features include: transmitter signal received indicator (chirp and side lights flash), security OFF reminder tone, quiescent current shutdown, alarm restart (battery removed) and emergency disarm procedure.

Dealer-programmable convenience features
Trunk release, panic alarm disable and passive arming (automatic arming) are dealer-programmable at the customer's option. These features do not require additional parts.

Dealer-installed accessory security features
Intrusion sensing, inclination sensing and shock sensing are dealer-installed accessory features. These features require additional parts.

Security system ECU and interfaces
The system is built around the microprocessor based security ECU, which interfaces with vehicle inputs and outputs, controls vehicle functions via the central microprocessor (CPU), and interfaces with the remainder of the security system. All of the interfaces and functions are microprocessor controlled by the security ECU software. Located in the left forward corner of the trunk the ECU is the RF receiver for the system. The ECU connects to the serial communications data link for JDS diagnosis and programming.

Security System Inputs / Outputs:

Direct vehicle inputs and outputs
The ECU interfaces with the following direct vehicle inputs and outputs:
^ Door open switches
^ Trunk open switch
^ Hood open switch
^ Ignition switch (position 1)
^ Headlight low beams
^ Side lights
^ Trunk release relay

Vehicle function control
The ECU controls the following vehicle functions via the CPU:
^ Starter inhibit (serial link)
^ Central door locking (serial link)
^ Turn signal flash (serial link)
^ Interior lights (input)

ECU interface with security system
The ECU interfaces with the remainder of the system:
^ Serial link to the intrusion ECU
^ Amplified output to the security sounder
^ Output to drive the warning LED
^ Input from the Security switch
^ Coaxial connection to the RF antenna imbedded in the rear window
^ Input from the accessory shock sensor
