Transmission Mounting Bolts - Improper Specification - Do Not Reuse

MODEL: 94 MY 4.OL DATE: 4/94

On a number of the above models (Engine Number range 9E 185496 to 9E 186799) four of the ten bolts that mount the automatic transmission convertor housing to the intermediate plate are not of the correct material specification. The four bolts are black in color and can be identified by the arrows in Fig. 1.

If the bolts are re-used after a service operation involving the separation of the transmission from the engine, the bolt threads will strip when tightened to the upper limit of the recommended torque (49 - 54 N-m).

The bolts will not fail in service. If it becomes necessary to separate the transmission from the engine during a service repair, the bolts must be replaced with bolts of the correct specification, part no. FB 110125/J.

NOTE:
Transmission units must not be removed to inspect the bolts in place. Bolt replacement is only required as a precaution.
