Clean Vehicle by carefully washing bodywork with high pressure washer.
Dry the body.
Move vehicle to position in light.

Note: Artificial daylight illumination to the highest LUX possible is essential in making a detailed appraisal.







Record customer and vehicle Information.
View vehicle to determine cause of problem

Paint Defect Appraisal
Locate defect.
Clean locally.
Check/match/identify using magnifying glass and defect illustrations (S7). Check other body part areas for evidence of additional defects.
Check other body part areas for evidence of previous paintwork.







Carry out thickness tests with a paint thickness gauge to determine factory finish.
Record findings.
Diagnose the nature of the defect.
Decide remedial action.

Panel Damage Appraisal
1. Determine direction and transfer of impact energy
- Assess speed, direction and attitude of vehicle at point of impact for nosedive etc.
- Assess shape of penetration at point of impact for indication of energy distribution.







2. Make visual examination of impact area
- Note Panels damaged beyond repair
- Note Panels for repair
- Note Panels for part replacement
- Check For cracks in sealant, paints etc.
- Check Crumple zones/kick up areas/crush cans

3. Check for hidden damage
- Remove components to reveal suspected hidden damage
- Check for inertia damage caused by engine etc.

4. Inspect associated areas
- Note ripples in associated panels
- Check for tension, snagging and misalignment of hanging panels
- Inspect 'A' posts,'B' posts, Door frames and shuts for kinks
- Inspect roof above 'B' post for panel deformation.

5. Check for systems operation and damage
- Lights
- Electrics
- Electronics
- SRS for ignition
- Seatbelts for tear strip
- Hydraulics Pneumatics
- Mechanical Cooling/Air conditioning
- Tires and roadwheels

6. Examine interior for secondary damage
- caused by occupants
- caused by load
- Impact over 15 Km/h, seatbelts may be suspect.

7. Measure for
- Steering geometry
- Wheelbase
- Frame alignment
- Uneven gaps in panels

8. Parts
- List damaged parts for replacement
- List replacement moldings removed for painting
- List components to be removed/stored and refitted

9. Paintwork
- Assess panels to be incorporated in refinish area
- Note coachlines to be removed and repainted







10. Repair data
- Use repair data to calculate estimated hours
- Use electronic/manual estimating system where available for accuracy

11. Prepare estimate
- Process estimate/quotation according to customer requirements.
