Engine Oil: Service and Repair

ENGINE OIL, RENEW

- Ensure vehicle is on a flat level surface and check the oil level

- Undo and remove the sump plug positioned at the rear of the sump, drain the engine oil into a suitable receptacle and dispose of it in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

- Renew engine oil.

- Check the oil level before starting the engine, i.e. engine is completely cold.

- With the engine at normal operating temperature, the oil level should be checked after the engine has been stopped for a minimum of two minutes to allow the oil to drain back into the sump.

- Oil level checking on a partly warm engine, or within two minutes of stopping the engine, will result in an artificially low oil level indication and could lead to overfilling.

- Remove the dipstick and wipe clean. Replace fully, then withdraw the dipstick, if the oil level is between the `H' and the `L' marks no additional oil is required.

- If the oil level is at or below the `L' mark, remove the oil filler cap and add 1 litre (1.7 pints) of the correct specification oil and recheck. Allow time (two minutes) for the added oil to fully register on the dipstick DO NOT OVER-FILL.

- For recommended engine oil refer to Specifications.

OIL FILTER CARTRIDGE, RENEW

- The white oil filter cartridge displaying the Jaguar logo, is located on the left-hand side of the engine below the throttle assembly (Fig. 2).

- Remove and refit a new filter cartridge using a cartridge removal / renewal tool Snap-On YA 992.

- On no account use an oil filter strap designed for the removal of cartridges.

Note: The normal tightening torque of the oil filter is a 3/8 to 1/2 turn after initial contact.
