INTRODUCTION
PDU Software Issue "SCANTOOL" will provide, on a separate disc, the following features:
^ Monitor Current Powertrain Data
^ Request Emission Trouble Codes
^ Monitor Freeze Frame Data
^ Clear Emission Trouble Codes
^ Exit
^ MONITOR CURRENT POWERTRAIN DATA
Allows the user to select the ECM parameters he wishes to monitor. The parameters are displayed digitally and can be compared against the values found in the diagnostic section of the 1995 XJS OBD II AJ16 Generic Engine Management System Manual. The parameters include the following:
(acronym definitions are located in the diagnostic section of the OBD II manual)
Further diagnosis of these parameters can be carried out by referencing the ECM and TCM electrical schematics found on pages 5-9,10 and 6-7,8 of the 1995 XJS OBD II AJ16 Generic Engine Management System Manual.
^ REQUEST EMISSION TROUBLE CODES
Will display the trouble codes stored in the Gems ECM memory. These will be "two trip" faults and will only display codes if the Check Engine (MIL) light is illuminated on the instrument cluster.
^ MONITOR FREEZE FRAME DATA
Will provide specific information about the "two trip" emission trouble code stored in memory. This information must be recorded to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE REPORT form S-93.
While in freeze frame
^ Press the * (asterisk) to enter menu options.
^ Press "show trace". Freeze frame data will be displayed for the specific DTC recorded in the ECM memory.
^ Record this information on Form 5-93.
A copy of the form should be retained in the Dealer Vehicle File and the original sent to:

^ CLEAR EMISSION TROUBLE CODES
Will remove DTC's from the ECM & TCM powertrain modules without entering a diagnostic routine.
NOTE:
Freeze frame data must be recorded to the DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE REPORT form S-93 prior to erasing DTC's.
^ CHECK ENGINE LAMP
Will provide the DTC's stored in the powertrain modules only if the MIL light is illuminated. "CENG" has not been commanded on" indicates there is no signal to illuminate the MIL bulb should the bulb be defective.
^ EXIT
"Leave OBD II SCANTOOL" aborts to the SCANTOOL menu options mentioned above.
