Shift Interlock: Service and Repair
GEARSHIFT INTERLOCK - RENEW
- Disconnect the battery.
- Remove the gear selector trim finisher.
- Operate the interlock solenoid override latch (2 Fig. 1) (a 'torx' type tool is necessary to remove the plug (4 Fig. 1)) to enable the gearshift to be moved from the 'P' -park position to the 'N' - neutral position.
- Open the center console armrest, remove the ashtray securing screws and disconnect the cigar lighter.
- Carefully prise out the mode control switch and disconnect the harness.
- Remove the console veneer panel securing wing nuts and remove the selector surround and veneer panel. Retrieve the spacers.
- Remove the radio console securing screws and remove the radio from the console.
- Disconnect the radio multi-way connector, the aerial connector and the earth lead from the back of the radio.
- Disconnect the clock module and the air conditioning multi-way connectors, and reposition the radio for access.
- Disconnect the gearshift interlock solenoid multi way connectors, remove the two screws (1 Fig. 2) and remove the interlock mechanism side cover (2 Fig. 2).
- Remove the two solenoid retaining screws, and remove the solenoid (1 Fig. 1).
- Fit the new solenoid in position, ensure that the hole in the plunger engages with the interlock lever peg and fit the screws and nuts - do not secure.
- Remove the transit clip from the solenoid, and adjust the solenoid.
- Fit the interlock mechanism side cover (2 Fig. 2) and secure with the two screws (1 Fig. 1), and reconnect the multi way connectors.
- Reposition the gearshift lever to 'N'-neutral.
- Connect the gearshift interlock solenoid harness multi- way connector, and refit the radio console.
- Reconnect the clock module and air conditioning multi- way connectors.
- Reconnect the radio multi-way connector, the aerial connector and the earth lead to the back of the radio, and secure the radio console in position.
- Fit and secure the veneer panel in position, reconnect the cigar lighter, and fit the ashtray.
- Refit the gear selector trim finisher.
- Fit the mode control switch and finisher.
- Reconnect the battery.
