Clutch Assembly Replacement
REMOVAL1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove transmission as outlined in "Transmission, Replace" procedure.
3. Scribe marks on pressure plate and flywheel to aid installation, then loosen pressure plate attaching bolts one turn at a time to relieve spring tension. The pressure plate bolts must be loosened evenly and in rotation to prevent distortion.
4. Remove pressure plate attaching bolts, then the pressure plate and clutch disc.
5. Remove throwout bearing and clutch release lever from clutch housing.
6. Remove pilot bushing lubricating wick from crankshaft.
INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate and install pilot bushing lubricating wick.
2. Install clutch disc and pressure plate onto flywheel, then align disc and plate using alignment tool J-33169 or equivalent. Ensure side of clutch disc marked "flywheel" is positioned against flywheel.
3. Install attaching bolts, then torque bolts evenly to 23 ft. lbs. on gasoline engines or 16 ft. lbs. on diesel engines.
4. Install throwout bearing and clutch release lever into clutch housing.
5. Install transmission, then lower vehicle.
