Brake Bleeding: Service and Repair

1984-87 CHEROKEE & WAGONEER, 1984-86 CJ & SCRAMBLER, 1986-87 COMANCHE & 1987 WRANGLER

1. Fill master cylinder to within 1/4 inch of each reservoir rim.
2. Bleed right rear wheel as follows:
a. Pump brakes several times, then hold pedal down firmly.
b. With pedal firmly depressed, open bleeder valve until pedal fades to floor, then close bleeder valve.
c. Repeat procedure until a continuous flow of brake fluid is released from bleeder valve. Always maintain a fluid level in master cylinder while bleeding brakes.
3. Bleed left rear, right front, and left front brakes, in that order, using same procedure as used for right rear brake.
4. Fill master cylinder to within 1/4 inch of reservoir rims.
5. Check brake operation and ensure pedal is firm, then road test vehicle. An improved brake fluid, Part No. 8982200215, is available for service on all models. The new fluid is compatible with other fluids, and results in improved braking performance.
