Removal


1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove transmission as described under "Transmission, Replace," then the starter motor.
3. On models except Wrangler with hydraulic release mechanism, remove slave cylinder bolts, disconnect pushrod from release fork and secure cylinder aside leaving hoses connected.
4. On all models, remove throwout bearing and clutch housing assembly, noting position of clutch housing shims, if equipped.
5. Mark position of pressure plate on flywheel for assembly reference.
6. Alternately loosen the pressure plate attaching bolts to relieve spring tension. The pressure plate bolts must be loosened evenly to prevent distortion of cover.
7. Remove pressure plate bolts, then the pressure plate and driven plate from flywheel. Place a mark on the side of the driven plate facing the flywheel for assembly reference.
8. Remove pilot bushing lubricating wick and soak wick in engine oil, if equipped.
