Removal and Installation

REMOVAL

Shift the transfer case into the 4-High position.

Raise and support the vehicle.

Drain the lubricant from the transfer case.

Mark the rear axle yoke and propeller shaft for installation reference.

Remove the rear propeller shaft.

Disconnect the speedometer cable, vacuum hoses and vent hose from the transfer case.

Raise the transmission and transfer case and remove the transmission crossmember attaching bolts.

Remove the crossmember and lower the transmission and transfer case.

Mark the transfer case front output shaft flange and the propeller shaft for installation reference.

Disconnect the front propeller shaft from the transfer case.

Disconnect the shift lever linkage rod at the transfer case.

Remove the shift lever bracket bolts.

Support the transfer case and remove the transfer case attaching bolts.

Remove the transfer case assembly.

INSTALLATION

Install the transfer case, aligning the splines of the input shaft with the transmission and slide the transfer case forward until mated with the transmission.

Install the transfer case attaching bolts and tighten with the specified torque.

Install the shift lever bracket bolts.

Attach the shift lever linkage rod at the transfer case.

Connect the speedometer cable and vacuum hoses to the transfer case.

Connect the front and install the rear propeller shaft. Ensure the reference marks made during removal are aligned.

Raise the transmission and transfer case and install the crossmember.

Install the attaching bolts and tighten with the specified torque.

Fill the transfer case with the recommended lubricant.

Lower the vehicle.

Road test the vehicle. Check to ensure that it shifts into and operates in all ranges.
