2WD Models

1. Disconnect fan shroud, if equipped.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then transmission filler tube from upper bracket.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then remove inspection cover from torque converter housing.
4. Remove fill tube and O-ring.
5. Remove starter motor attaching bolts, then the starter motor.
6. Mark propeller shafts and axle yokes for installation.
7. Disconnect propeller shafts from transfer case yokes and secure shafts to frame rail with wire.
8. On models equipped with V8 engine, disconnect front exhaust pipes from exhaust manifolds.
9. On all models, drain fluid from transfer case assembly, then disconnect speedometer cable, if applicable.
10. Disconnect gearshift, throttle linkages and transfer case shift linkages (if applicable).
11. Disconnect electrical connectors from neutral start switch.
12. Mark torque converter and driveplate for installation, then remove torque converter to driveplate bolts.
13. Position a suitable jack under transmission. Secure transmission onto jack using a safety chain.
14. Remove rear crossmember from vehicle.
15. Disconnect and cap transmission fluid lines.
16. Remove transmission to engine attaching bolts.
17. Lower transmission from vehicle.
18. Reverse procedure to install.
