Door Locks: Testing and Inspection

NO DOOR LOCKS OPERATE USING DOOR LOCK SWITCHES
(POWER ACCY circuit breaker installed)

1. Connect a voltmeter to the output side of the circuit breaker and check for voltage. If there is no voltage, check for voltage on the input side of the circuit breaker. If there is voltage, replace the circuit breaker. If there is no voltage, check for an open in the supply circuit to the circuit breaker.
2. Remove the door switch and measure voltage at terminal 1. If battery voltage is not present repair open to Dome fuse. If there is less than or no battery voltage at terminal 1, go to step 3.

Power Door Lock/Unlock Relays:

3. Remove the passenger side kickpanel and the door lock relays.
4. Connect an ohmmeter to terminal number 4 (87A) on the Lock and Unlock relays. Meter should read zero (0) ohms. If not, repair open to ground.
5. Hold left-hand door switch in the LOCK position. Connect a voltmeter and check for battery voltage at terminal 1 (86) of the Lock relay. If battery voltage is present, test the door lock switch. If less than or no battery voltage is present, repair open to the left-hand switch.
6. Hold left-hand door switch in the UNLOCK position. Connect a voltmeter and check for battery voltage at terminal 6 of the Unlock relay. If battery voltage is present, test the door lock switch. If less than or no battery voltage is present, repair open to the left-hand switch.
7. Connect an ohmmeter to terminal number 2 (85) on the Lock and Unlock relay. Meter should read zero (0) ohms. If not, repair open to ground.
8. Hold left-hand door switch in the LOCK position. Connect a voltmeter and check for battery voltage at terminal 3 (30) of the Lock relay. If battery voltage is present, go to step 9. If less than or no battery voltage is present, replace the Lock relay.
9. Hold left-hand door switch in the UNLOCK position. Connect a voltmeter and check for battery voltage at terminal 3 (30) of the Unlock relay. If battery voltage is present, check connections and door lock motor. If less than or no battery voltage is present, replace the Unlock relay.
10. Repeat procedure for the right-hand door lock switch.

NO DOOR LOCKS OPERATE, USING TRANSMITTER

1. Connect an ohmmeter at terminal 1 of the Keyless entry module. Ohmmeter should read zero (0) ohms. If not, repair open to ground.
2. Connect a voltmeter to terminal 6 of the Keyless entry module. Voltmeter should read battery voltage. If not, repair open to Dome fuse.
3. Install a jumper across terminals 6 and 2 of the Keyless entry module. Doors should lock. If OK, replace the Keyless entry module. If not, repair open from terminal 2 to Lock relay terminal 1 (86).
4. Install a jumper wire across terminals 6 and 4 of the Keyless entry module. Doors should unlock. If OK, replace the Keyless entry module. If not, repair open from terminal 2 to Unlock relay terminal 1 (86).
