Windows: Testing and Inspection

NO WINDOWS OPERATE

1. Connect a voltmeter at the power window feed connector at the fuse panel.
2. Voltmeter should read battery voltage. If not, replace 60 amp fuse in power distribution center.
3. turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and measure the resistance from the side of the cigar lighter socket to ground. Ohmmeter should read zero (0) ohms. If not, repair open to ground.
4. Remove master door lock/power window switch assembly mounting screws. Measure resistance at BLK wire (terminal DX) at the left-hand switch. Ohmmeter should read zero (0) ohms. If not, repair ground splice of Instrument Panel harness.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and measure voltage at terminal BY at the left-hand switch. Voltmeter should read battery voltage. If not, repair open to circuit breaker.
6. Operate window switch. If the windows move UP and DOWN, Switch Test (Except Master Switch)
Switch Test (Master Switch Only)
7. If switches pass test, replace defective motors.

ONE WINDOW OPERATES

NOTE: Remove door panel of inoperative window, probe harness side of unplugged motor connector.

1. Connect a voltmeter to terminal A of connector, holding switch in the DOWN position. Voltmeter should read battery voltage. If not, open back to master switch. If additional switch is in circuit (not left-hand motor), Switch Test (Except Master Switch)
Switch Test (Master Switch Only)
2. Connect an ohmmeter to terminal B of connector, holding switch in DOWN position. Ohmmeter should read zero (0) ohms.
NOTE: Maintain DOWN position while meter lead is attached.
3. If zero (0) ohms is not read at the ohmmeter, repair open to master switch. If additional switch is in circuit (not left-hand motor), Switch Test (Except Master Switch)
Switch Test (Master Switch Only)
4. If both test are OK, replace the power window lift motor.
