Wiper System Testing
Refer to Wiper and Washer Systems/Diagrams/Electrical when performing the following procedure.1. Place ignition switch in the Run position.
2. Measure voltage at battery side of circuit breaker. Voltmeter should read battery voltage.
3. If not, repair open from ignition switch.
4. Measure voltage at wiper side of circuit breaker. Voltmeter should read battery voltage.
5. If not, replace circuit breaker.
6. measure resistance between motor connector terminal E and chassis ground. Ohmmeter should read zero ohms.
7. If not, repair open between motor connector and ground.
8. On models with intermittent wipers, proceed as follows:
a. Ensure ignition switch is in the Run position, then remove intermittent wiper module.
b. Plug module terminals together. Wipers should operate in Lo, Hi and Mist modes.
c. If wipers now operate properly, replace intermittent module. If wipers do not operate properly, proceed to step 16.
9. On all models, make the following checks at the switch side of wiper/washer switch connector with ignition switch in Run position.
10. Measure voltage at terminal E with switch in Lo and or Mist/intermittent.
11. Voltmeter should read battery voltage. If not, replace switch.
12. Measure voltage at terminal C, with wiper switch in Hi.
13. Voltmeter should read battery voltage. If not, replace switch.
14. Measure voltage at terminal F while running, then switch to Off.
15. Voltmeter should read battery voltage until wipers return to Park position, then zero volts. If not, replace switch.
16. With wiper switch disconnected, turn ignition switch to the Off position.
17. Measure resistance between terminals A and D while rotating switch from minimum to maximum delay.
18. Ohmmeter should read 0-500K ohms. If not, replace switch.
19. Measure resistance between terminals A and G while rotating switch from minimum to maximum delay.
20. If ohmmeter reads 0-500K ohms replace wiper module. If not, replace switch.
21. Place ignition switch to Run position and test on motor side of motor connector.
22. Measure voltage at terminal B with wiper switch in any position.
23. Voltmeter should read battery voltage. If not, repair open from fuse panel.
24. Measure voltage at terminal A with switch in Lo.
25. If voltmeter reads battery voltage, replace motor. If not, repair open from wiper switch.
26. Measure voltage at terminal H with switch in Hi.
27. If voltmeter reads battery voltage, replace motor. If not, repair open from wiper switch.
28. Measure voltage at terminal D while wipers are running, then switch to Off.
29. Voltmeter should read battery voltage until wipers return to Park, then zero volts. If not, repair open from wiper switch.
