REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This procedure involves shimming the skid plate away from the spring shackle.
1. Loosen the three skid plate retaining bolts (Figure 1) so the skid plate can be separated from the skid plate bracket.
Figure 2:
2. Remove one retaining bolt at a time, position a washer between skid plate and the skid plate bracket (Figure 2).
3. Insert the retaining bolt through the skid plate, the washer, the skid plate upper bracket and begin screwing it into the retaining nut. Move on to the second and third bolts and install the washer in the same way.
4. Tighten the skid plate bolts to 25 N-m (18 ft.lbs.) torque.
5. WITH THE VEHICLE SITTING ON THE FLOOR WITH NO LOAD, check the clearance between the skid plate and spring shackle to insure a minimum of 25/32 in. (20 mm) clearance.
6. If the minimum clearance is not obtained, pull forward on the lower edge of the skid plate to create adequate clearance from the spring shackle where a close contact condition exists.
