To ensure customer satisfaction, remember to record all radio settings before disconnecting the battery and to reset all electronic memory (clock, radio settings, etc.) when you have completed the service procedure.

2. Remove fuel tank filler cap.

3. Release fuel pressure on Multi-point fuel injected vehicles (MPI) as follows:

CAUTION:
DO NOT ALLOW FUEL TO SPILL ONTO THE ENGINE INTAKE OR EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. PLACE SHOP TOWELS UNDER AND AROUND THE PRESSURE PORT TO ABSORB FUEL WHEN THE PRESSURE IS RELEASED FROM THE FUEL RAIL.

a. Remove protective cap from pressure test port on the fuel rail.

b. Obtain the fuel pressure gauge/hose assembly from fuel pressure gauge tool set 5069. Remove the gauge from the hose.

c. Place one end of hose (gauge end) into an approved gasoline container.

d. Place a shop towel under the test port.

e. To release fuel pressure, screw the other end of the hose onto the fuel pressure test port.

f. After fuel pressure has been released, remove the hose from the test port.

g. Install protective cap on pressure test port. Remove shop towels and dispose of properly.

4. Using a portable gasoline siphon/storage tank, drain fuel tank.

5. Raise vehicle on hoist.

6. Using a small straight blade screwdriver, pull back the stem of the push clips that secure the fuel filler neck shroud at the bottom of the left rear wheel well and remove shroud (Figure 1).

7. Disconnect vent hose and filler hose from fuel tank.

WARNING:
WRAP SHOP TOWELS AROUND FUEL HOSES TO ABSORB ANY FUEL SPILLAGE DURING FUEL TANK REMOVAL.

8. Place a transmission jack, under the center of the fuel tank.

9. Remove the seven mounting nuts connecting the skid plate to the crossmember and lower the tank far enough to allow the wiring connector and fuel lines to be disconnected from the fuel tank sending unit (Figure 2).

10. Lower the tank and remove from under the vehicle.
