B. Remove and Straighten Fuel Tank Sending Unit

1. Clean dirt from around fuel tank sending unit flange.

2. Remove the eight fuel tank sending unit retaining screws. Remove sending unit and discard old gasket. Be careful not to bend float arm.

3. Without the gasket installed, straighten the sending unit flange by installing the sending unit in the fuel tank with the provided ring on top of the flange as shown in Figure 3.

NOTE:
A small gap may remain between the sending unit flange and the fuel tank (Figure 4). Press down firmly on one side of the flange to start the first screw. Then work around the flange until all screws are installed. DO NOT INSTALL THE NEW LONGER SCREWS AS DAMAGE TO THE TANK MAY OCCUR.

3. Using the original retaining screws and an inch pound torque wrench, torque sending unit flange ring to 65 in-lbs. in the sequence shown in Figure 5.

IMPORTANT:
TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE NEW GASKET AND TO MAKE SURE THE SENDING UNIT FLANGE IS COMPLETELY STRAIGHTENED, DO NOT INSTALL THE NEW GASKET.

4. Remove and discard the eight original sending unit retaining screws and remove the sending unit. Be careful not to bend float arm.
