SAFETY RECALL -- Fuel Tank Sending Unit Gasket

Dear Chrysler Corporation Vehicle Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

It has been determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1987 through early-1994 model Jeep(R) Wrangler vehicles equipped with a plastic fuel tank. The fuel tank sending unit gasket may crack, resulting in the potential for fuel leakage. In some cases, this may cause an underbody fire which could be hazardous to vehicle occupants.

Your vehicle, identified on the enclosed form, is affected. For this reason we ask that you arrange for service to correct the condition without delay. The service and required parts as described in this letter will be provided free of charge.

To correct the condition, your dealer will replace the fuel tank sending unit gasket. The work will take about one and one-half hours to complete. However, additional time may be required depending on how dealer appointments are scheduled and processed. To obtain this free service:

Take the enclosed Owner Notification Form with you at the time of your appointment and give it to your dealer. The form identifies the vehicle and the service that is required.

If you have any problem obtaining the needed repair, please call the Chrysler Customer Center, toll free, at 1-800-853-1403. A representative will assist you in getting your vehicle repaired.
