INSTALLATION
1. If the engine was rotated while the distributor was removed, it will be necessary to establish timing according to the following procedure.
2. Remove the No.1 spark plug; holding a finger over the spark plug hole and rotate the engine until compression pressure is felt. Slowly continue to rotate the engine until the timing index on the vibration damper pulley aligns with the Top Dead Center (TDC) mark on the timing degree scale. Always rotate the engine in direction of normal rotation. Do not turn the engine backward to align the timing marks.
3. Using a flat blade screwdriver, rotate the oil pump gear so that the gear slot on the oil pump shaft is slightly before the 11 o'clock position.
4. Clean the distributor mounting area of the cylinder block.
5. Install a replacement distributor mounting gasket.
6. With the distributor cap removed, install the distributor with the rotor located just past the the 2 o'clock position.
7. When the distributor is fully engaged in it's correct location, the rotor should be just past the 3 o'clock position.
8. Install the distributor hold down clamp and bolt. Tighten the hold down bolt to 23 Nm (17 ft-lbs).
9. Install the distributor cap on the distributor housing and torque the hold down screws to 3 Nm (26 in-lbs).
10. Connect the primary wiring connector.
