Retarded Timing
RETARDED TIMING
Retarded timing (ignition occurs later) increases the heat output of the engine and may lead to an overheating condition.
With the spark occurring late, less heat energy from the combustion process is converted into mechanical energy, this results in a higher combustion temperature.
SYMPTOMS
Vehicle performance will be sluggish.
HOW TO VERIFY
Check ignition timing.
NOTE: The ignition timing is not adjustable. Timing which is out of specifications may be caused by a mechanical problem (slipped timing chain) or by an electrical problem.
