Disc Brake System: Description and Operation

The disc brake is of the floating caliper, single piston design. The caliper, is fixed by two mounting bolts located in the caliper support bracket, and is positioned over the rotor. It slides on two mounting pins which maintain caliper position relative to rotor and caliper anchor plate. Although caliper designs may differ slightly, operation and service procedures remain similar.

The caliper is a one-piece casting containing a piston bore, piston, bleeder screw and inlet ports. Compensation for lining wear is provided by the lateral sliding movement of the caliper and by increased piston extension.
