Detonation/Spark Knock

SYMPTOM DESCRIPTION
A mild to severe ping usually worse under acceleration. The engine makes sharp metallic knocks that change with the throttle opening.


POSSIBLE CAUSE ACTION


Spark plugs - Check for proper heat range and gap.


Ignition Timing - Check distributor indexing.


Engine Controller - Check spark advance.
