SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Underhood metallic rattle or knocking noise which sounds like it's coming from the instrument panel or glove box area may be present when driving over rough roads or when the doors are slammed.

DIAGNOSIS:

Open the hood and with the hood support rod clipped in the stored position (have a helper slam the door). If the support rod vibrates and contacts the radiator, perform the repair procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 4856747 Foam Ring


REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves installing a foam ring on the hood support rod to isolate it from the radiator.

1. Inspect the hood support rod to ensure that it is not bent or damaged and that the retainer is functioning. Repair as necessary.

2. Inspect the rod for the presence of any foam ring that may have been installed in production and remove it if present.




3. Install the new foam ring, P/N 4856747, in the rod depression by sliding it over the rod as illustrated.
