Service Procedure
1. With the ignition in the "OFF" position, disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.NOTE:
To enhance customer satisfaction, remember to reset the clock when you have completed the repair.

2. Starting with the left side of the instrument panel, remove the two screws that secure the outboard end of the left speaker bezel to the instrument panel (Figure 1).
3. Using a trim stick or other suitable wide flat-bladed tool, gently pry at the top and bottom edges of the speaker bezel to release the two snap clip retainers that secure the bezel to the instrument panel.
4. Remove the speaker bezel from the instrument panel (Figure 1).
5. Remove the foam rubber speaker baffle from the speaker (Figure 1).

6. Remove the four screws that secure the speaker to the instrument panel bracket (Figure 2).
7. Pull the speaker away from the instrument panel far enough to access the speaker wire harness connector and unplug the wiring harness from the speaker. Then remove speaker from the instrument panel.
CAUTION:
Do not allow the speaker to hang by the wiring harness as harness and/or speaker damage may result.

8. Working through the speaker opening in the instrument panel, remove the screw for the ground wires located behind the instrument panel bracket (Figure 3). Save the screw for reinstallation.

9. Using a 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) drill bit, drill a hole into the metal bracket next to the cone shaped depression for the original hole, as shown in Figure 4.
CAUTION:
Do not allow the drill bit to contact the instrument panel wiring located behind the instrument panel bracket.
10. Pull ground wires through speaker opening in the instrument panel. Using the original screw removed in Step 8, attach the ground wires to the new hole. Torque the screw to 35 in. lbs. (4 N.m) (Figure 4).
NOTE:
The screw must be installed in the opposite direction that it was originally installed. Be sure that the pointed end of the screw does not contact instrument panel wiring.
11. Connect speaker harness wiring connector to speaker.
12. Install speaker into instrument panel (Figure 2) and torque speaker mounting screws to 10 in. lbs. (1.1 N.m).
CAUTION:
Route ground wiring so that it is not pinched or in contact with sharp edges.
13. Install foam rubber speaker baffle (Figure 1).
14. Install the speaker bezel over the speaker (Figure 1). Torque bezel retaining screws to 20 in. lbs. (2.2 N.m).
15. Repeat steps 2 through 14 to repair the right side instrument panel ground wiring attachment.
16. Connect the negative battery cable.
