Door Weatherstrip - Water Leaks/Wind Noise

SUBJECT:
Improved Door Weather Strip

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing a revised door weather strip, which includes additional fasteners.

MODELS:
1997 - 1999 (TJ) Wrangler

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Customers may experience water leaks or wind noise or poor retention of the seal to the door.

DIAGNOSIS:
If water leaks or wind noise are present at the door or if the weather strip has come loose from the door, perform the Repair Procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 05017010AB Weather strip - right 1/2 door
1 05017011AB Weather strip - left 1/2 door
1 05017462AA Weather strip - right full door
1 05017463AA Weather strip - left full door

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

THIS REPAIR IS COMPATIBLE WITH DAIMLERCHRYSLER'S MOBILE SERVICE PROGRAM AND DOES NOT REQUIRE HOISTS OR OTHER FULL SERVICE FACILITY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT.

1. Roll the window all the way up.

2. Fully open the door.

3. Remove the old weather strip and retainer and clean all remaining adhesive from the door.





4. Align the template provided in the parts package with the holes for the original weather strip as a guide (See Figure 1). Once the holes are aligned, tape the template to the door to prevent any movement.

5. Using a center punch, mark the new hole locations.

6. Drill the new holes in the location marked using a 5 mm (#9) drill.

NOTE:
THE TOP EXISTING HOLE ON THE "B" PILLAR (FULL DOOR) WILL NOT BE PRESENT ON THE TEMPLATE.

7. Apply a coating of corrosion resistant primer to the holes and allow sufficient time for the primer to dry

8. Install the new seal and retainer.

9. Repeat this process for the opposite side. The template can be inverted for use on the other side.
