Cylinder Head Bolt Torque
CYLINDER HEAD BOLT TORQUE/SEQUENCETighten the engine cylinder head bolts in sequence according to the following procedure:
a. Tighten all bolts in sequence (1 through 10) to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) torque.
b. Tighten all bolts in sequence (1 through 10) to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) torque.
c. Check all bolts to verify they are set to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) torque.
d. Tighten bolts (in sequence):
- Bolts 1 through 6 to 149 Nm (110 ft. lbs.) torque.
- Bolt 7 to 136 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) torque.
- Bolts 8 through 10 to 149 Nm (110 ft. lbs.) torque.
Cylinder Head Bolts #1-10 & #12-14 149 Nm (110 ft. lbs.)
Cylinder Head Bolt #11 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.)
Cylinder Head Cover Bolts 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.)
Exhaust Manifold
Bolt #1 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)
Bolts #2-5 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.)
Nuts 6 and 7 14 Nm (126 inch lbs.)
Spark Plugs 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.)
Thermostat Housing Bolts 18 Nm (156 inch lbs.)
CYLINDER HEAD BOLT RE-USABILITY
If this was the first time the bolts were removed, put a paint dab on the top of the bolt. If the bolts have a paint dab on the top of the bolt or it isn't known if they were used before, discard the bolts.
CYLINDER HEAD SURFACE VARIATION
Check cylinder head for flatness.
Cylinder head must be flat within:
- Standard dimension = less than 0.05 mm (0.002 inch)
- Service Limit = 0.2 mm (0.008 inch)
- Grinding Limit = Maximum of 0.2 mm (0.008 inch) is permitted.
