Cylinder Head Assembly: Specifications

CYLINDER HEAD BOLT TORQUE/PROCEDURE:

Cylinder Head Tightening Sequence:

Tighten Bolts in Sequence Using the Following Steps and Torque Values:
^Step 1: Bolts 1-8 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.)
^Step 2: Repeat Step 1 WITHOUT loosening the bolts.
^Step 3: Bolts 9-12 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.)
^Step 4: Bolts 1-8 Tighten 90°
^Step 5: Bolts 1-8 Tighten 90° Again
^Step 6: Bolts 9-12 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.)

NOTE: The cylinder head bolts are tightened using an angle torque procedure, however, the bolts are not a torque-to-yield design. All cylinder head bolts must be checked for reusablilty before cylinder head installation.

CYLINDER HEAD BOLT REUSABILITY:

Bolt reusability can be checked by holding a straight edge against the threads. If all the threads do not contact the scale, the bolt must be replaced.

NOTE: The cylinder head bolts are tightened using a torque plus angle procedure. The bolts must be examined BEFORE reuse. If the bolts threads no not pass inspection, the bolts must be replaced.

CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP TORQUE/PROCEDURE:

Working in 1/2 turn increments, tighten the bearing cap retaining bolts starting with the middle cap working outward.

Bearing Cap Bolt 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.)

NOTE: Caps should be installed so that the stamped numbers on the caps are in numerical order, (1 - 4) from the front to the rear of the engine. All caps should be installed so that the stamped arrow on the caps point toward the front of the engine.

CAMSHAFT GEAR/SPROCKET SPECIFICATION:

Gear/Sprocket Retaining Bolt 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.)

EXHAUST MANIFOLD SPECIFICATIONS:

Manifold to Head Bolts 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
Exhaust Pipe to Exhaust Manifold Nuts/Bolts 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.)

INTAKE MANIFOLD/THROTTLE BODY SPECIFICATIONS:

Intake Manifold Mounting Bolts 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.)

Throttle Body Mounting Bolts 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.)
