THIS BULLETIN IS BEING PROVIDED IN ADVANCE. DO NOT ORDER PARTS OR PERFORM ANY ACTIONS RELATED TO THIS BULLETIN UNTIL JANUARY 25, 2008.
SUBJECT:
Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) System Freezes In Extreme Cold Ambient Temperatures
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing revised PCV system components.
MODELS:
2004 (AN) Dakota Truck
2002 - 2006 (DR) Ram Truck
2004 - 2006 (HB) Durango
2002 - 2006 (KJ) Liberty

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with 3.7L engines (sale code EKG).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some customers operating in extreme cold ambient temperatures (Below 0°F or Neg. 18°C) may experience moisture collecting in the PCV system and freezing. This can lead to a variety of cold engine crankcase venting or driveability symptoms.
DIAGNOSIS:
If a customer indicates that they are experiencing any cold engine crankcase venting or driveability symptoms, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE -2002-2003 VEHICLES:
1. Remove the PCV crankcase vent hose that runs from the resonator to the rear of the LEFT cylinder head (Fig. 1).
2. Remove the (plastic or metal) fitting for the crankcase vent hose at the rear of the LEFT cylinder head (Fig. 1)
3. Remove the PCV vacuum feed hose from intake manifold to the PCV valve (in oil filler housing) (Fig. 1)
4. Cap the open resonator port with cap p/n 05191775AA (Fig. 2).
5. Install PCV adaptor p/n 53034065AA in place of removed fitting at the rear of the left cylinder head. Torque to 28 Nm (21 Ft. Lbs.) (Fig. 2).
6. Install PCV Hose p/n 68044349AA from PCV adaptor to original PCV hose port on intake manifold (Fig. 2).
7. Replace oil till housing with p/n 53020891AE (without PCV valve). Torque bolts to 13 Nm (10 Ft. Lbs.). Reuse original oil filler cap (Fig. 2)
8. Install the Authorized Modification label, p/n 04275086AC.
9. Clean the area next to the VECI Label with an appropriate solvent and install the new vacuum schematic, p/n 52014254AA, next to the VECI label.
