TORQUE CONVERTER AND REPROGRAM ECM/TCM

Effective immediately all repairs on involved vehicles are to be performed according to this notification. Service Bulletins #21-009-06 and #18-023-06 have been cancelled.

MODELS:
2005-2006 (KJ) Jeep(R) Liberty

NOTE:
This notification applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a 2.8L diesel engine ("5" in the 8th VIN position) and automatic transmission (sales code DGQ) built through November 2, 2005 (MDH 11-02-14).

IMPORTANT:
Those vehicles that have already had this repair performed, as determined by our warranty records, have been excluded from this notification.

^ GThe transmission torque converter on about 950 of the above vehicles may fail. This can cause a rattling sound in the neutral or park positions and/or illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). Continued operation can result in transmission damage.

^ To correct this condition, the torque converter must be replaced and both the ECM and TCM must be reprogrammed. The repair involves a small reduction in engine torque to enhance torque converter and transmission durability.

DEALER VIN LISTS Located On DealerCONNECT - Global Recall System(GRS)

Global Recall System (GRS) has been developed to provide dealers with an up-to-date list of involved vehicles by recall number and by dealer code. Owners known to DaimlerChrysler are also listed. Involved vehicles will be removed from GRS within several days of submitting repair claims.

To use the GRS in DealerCONNECT, you first need to click on the "Service" tab and then in the Reports and Information section click on "Global Recall System". Your dealer's VIN list for each recall displayed can be sorted by: VIN sequence, city, postal code, phone number or those vehicles that according to our records were unsold at time of the recall launch.
