"A" Pillar Glass Molding Lifting At Upper Edge
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves gluing the upper "A" pillar molding edge to the roof (ditch) molding.
MODELS:
2007 (MK74) Patriot
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The upper edge of the "A" pillar molding may lift from the roof (ditch) molding and leave a gap (Fig. 1).
DIAGNOSIS:
Examine the upper edge of the "A pillar molding for a lifting condition. If the condition exists, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Using 3M adhesive cleaner or equivalent, clean the underside edge of the "A" pillar molding and mating surface on the roof molding.
2. Protect the surrounding area with 2 inch masking tape (Fig 2).
NOTE:
Use care to protect the painted surface on each side of the molding to prevent adhesive from getting on the paint surface.
3. Wipe the underside of the "A" pillar trim and roof molding with 3M adhesion promoter pn 06396 or equivalent. Allow the promoter to flash off per manufacturers recommendations.
4. Prepare the 3M Duramix Adhesive pn 4747 or equivalent per manufacturers recommendation.
5. Using a helper, hold the "A" pillar molding up, place a small amount of adhesive to the inner edge of the molding (Fig. 3). Press the "A" pillar molding down to the roof molding.
NOTE:
Working time for the 3M Duramix Adhesive is 10 to 20 seconds. Immediately clean any adhesive that may have squeezed out
6. While holding the molding down, clean any excess adhesive immediately with 3M Adhesive remover or equivalent.
7. Place a piece of 2 inch tape over the end of the molding to hold it in place. Allow 15 minutes for the adhesive to fully cure before removing the tape.
