A/C Compressor - Removal
3.0L ENGINE
WARNING: Refer to the applicable warnings and cautions for this system before performing the following operation Warning and Caution. Failure to follow the warnings and cautions could result in possible personal injury or death.
CAUTION: The A/C receiver/drier must be replaced if an internal failure of the A/C compressor has occurred. Failure to replace the A/C receiver/drier can cause serious damage to the replacement A/C compressor.
NOTE: The A/C compressor may be removed and repositioned without disconnecting the refrigerant lines or discharging the refrigerant system. Discharging is not necessary if servicing the compressor clutch, clutch field coil or engine.
2 WHEEL DRIVE MODELS
NOTE: Illustration shown with power steering pump removed for clarity.
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the beauty cover from the top of the engine.
3. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Recovery.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. Remove the belly pans.
6. Remove the accessory drive belt (3) Accessory Drive Belt - Removal.
7. Remove the nuts (5 and 6) that secure the A/C suction line (1) and A/C discharge line (2) to the A/C compressor (4).
8. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the dual-plane seals.
9. Install plugs in, or tape over all of the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor ports.
10. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) from the A/C compressor (4).
11. Support the A/C compressor and remove the three bolts (2 and 3) that secure the compressor to the engine and remove the compressor.

12. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
13. Remove the beauty cover from the top of the engine.
14. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Recovery.
15. Raise and support the vehicle.
16. Remove the belly pans.
17. Remove the battery and battery tray to gain access to the A/C compressor (4) Battery Tray - Removal.
18. Remove the nuts (5 and 6) that secure the A/C suction line (1) and A/C discharge line (2) to the A/C compressor (4).
19. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the dual-plane seals.
20. Install plugs in, or tape over all of the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor ports.
21. Raise and support the vehicle.
22. Remove the front belly pan.
23. Remove the accessory drive belt Accessory Drive Belt - Removal.
24. Lower the vehicle.
25. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) from the A/C compressor (4).
26. Remove the bolt (2) that secures the rear of the A/C compressor to the engine.
27. Raise and support the vehicle.
28. Support the A/C compressor and remove the two bolts (3) that secure the front of the compressor to the engine and remove the compressor.
