Fuel System/Body - Fuel Filler Neck To Body Grommet Play

SUBJECT:
Lateral Play Between The Fuel Filler Neck And Body Grommet

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves modifying the fuel filler tube with a clamp and rubber hose if the condition occurs.

MODELS:

2007-2010 (KA) Nitro

2008 - 2010 (KK) Liberty

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 3.7L or 4.0L engine (sales code EKG or EGS) built before October 12, 2010 (MDH1012XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some customers may experience a condition of higher than desired lateral play between the fuel filler neck and body grommet.

Adding a clamp and rubber hose above the mounting bracket will prevent this condition.

DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer experiences the symptom/condition, proceed to the repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
Erase all Diagnostic Trouble Codes after repair.

1. Lift the vehicle on a hoist.





2. Gain access to the mounting bracket that secures the fuel filler tube to the vehicle (Fig 1).

3. Adjust the fuel filler tube to make sure it is assembled correctly before installing the rubber hose and clamp.

NOTE:
It may be necessary to clean the area prior to applying the rubber hose.

4. Cut a piece of rubber hose one inch long and split it open. It may be necessary to trim the piece of hose so it does not overlay itself when it is wrapped around the filler tube (Fig. 2).

5. Wrap rubber hose around the filler tube above the hold down bracket (Fig. 3).

6. Install clamp on top of rubber hose and tighten clamp (Fig. 3).

7. Connect wiTECH to the vehicle.

8. Clear any DTC's that may have been set in the PCM.
