Service Procedure

1. Open the hood.

2. Lift the vehicle half way up on an appropriate hoist.

3. Remove the left front wheel and tire.

4. Remove and discard the plastic tie strap on the upper transmission oil cooler line for the oxygen sensor wiring.





5. Pull back the rubber transmission oil cooler line dust covers at the transmission (Figure 1).

6. Place a drain pan under the transmission oil cooler lines to catch any fluid that will drain out after disconnecting the lines from the transmission.





7. Using Special Tool 8875A, disconnect both transmission oil cooler lines from the transmission (Figure 2).

8. Using approximately 10 psi of air pressure, carefully blow out the remaining oil from the transmission oil cooler and oil cooler lines.

NOTE:
Blowing out all the transmission fluid from the original transmission oil cooler lines will eliminate having to clean oil from under the vehicle by the transmission oil cooler line connections.





9. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler line retainer from the engine oil pan stud (Figure 3).





10. Pull back the rubber transmission oil cooler line dust covers at the transmission oil cooler (Figure 4).

11. Using Special Tool 8875A, disconnect both transmission oil cooler lines from the transmission oil cooler.

12. Remove and discard the original transmission oil cooler lines.

13. Place the new transmission oil cooler lines into position and connect the transmission oil cooler line retainer on the new transmission oil cooler lines to the engine oil pan stud to hold the lines into position.

14. Connect the new transmission oil cooler lines to the transmission oil cooler.

CAUTION:
Be sure you hear an audible "click" when installing the transmission oil cooler lines. Also verify by lightly pulling on the transmission oil cooler lines after installation to verify that the transmission oil cooler lines are full engaged in the transmission oil cooler line receivers.

15. Slide the transmission oil cooler line dust covers, at the transmission oil cooler, into position.

16. Connect the new transmission oil cooler lines to the transmission.

CAUTION:
Be sure you hear an audible "click" when installing the transmission oil cooler lines. Also verify by lightly pulling on the transmission oil cooler lines after installation to verify that the transmission oil cooler lines are full engaged in the transmission oil cooler line receivers.

17. Slide the transmission oil cooler line dust covers, at the transmission, into position.

18. Using a new plastic tie strap, secure the oxygen sensor wiring to the upper transmission oil cooler line.

19. Thoroughly clean the transmission crossmember of any oil that drained onto it from the open transmission cooler line fittings.

20. Partially lower the vehicle from the hoist.

21. Install the left front wheel and tire. Tighten the lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (135 N.m).

22. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.

23. Start the engine and shift the transmission through all gear ranges to purge any air from the transmission cooler lines.

24. Check the transmission fluid level using the following procedure:

a. Verify that the vehicle is parked on a level surface.

b. Remove the transmission dipstick from the dipstick tube.

c. Actuate the parking brake. Start the engine and let it run at idle speed with the gear in selector lever in the "P" position.

d. Shift through the transmission modes several times with the vehicle stationary and the engine idling.

e. Warm up the transmission, wait at least 2 minutes and check the oil level with the engine running. Push the Oil Dipstick (Special Tool 9336A) into transmission fill tube until the dipstick tip contacts the oil pan and pull the dipstick out, read the oil level on the dipstick and repeat if necessary.

f. Check the transmission oil temperature using wiTECH scan tool.

NOTE:
The true transmission oil temperature can only be read by a scan tool with the transmission in Reverse or any forward gear position.





g. The transmission Oil Dipstick 9336A has indicator marks every 10mm. Determine the height of the oil level on the dipstick and using the height, the transmission temperature, and the Transmission Fluid Graph (Figure 5), determine if the transmission oil level is correct.

h. Add or remove oil as necessary and recheck the oil level.

i. Once the oil level is correct, install the dipstick into the dipstick tube.

j. Remove the wiTECH scan tool from the vehicle.
