HELP USING THE wiTECH DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATION FOR FLASHING AN ECU IS
AVAILABLE BY SELECTING "HELP" THEN "HELP CONTENTS" AT THE TOP OF
THE wiTECH DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATION WINDOW.

THE wiTECH SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT RELEASE 12.01 OR HIGHER TO PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE.

SUBJECT:
Flash: Bump Jerk Feeling

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) with new software.

MODELS:

2009 - 2010 (MK) Compass/Patriot

2009-2010 (PM) Caliber

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to 2009 and 2010 PM/MK vehicles equipped with a 2.4L engine (sales code ED3) with 50 state emissions (sales code NAS) or export emissions (sales code NA1) and a automatic transmission (sales code DAV).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may report a bump or jerking feeling under the following conditions:

I. Vehicle is traveling between 25 MPH (40 KPH) to 30 MPH (48 KPH) and the driver lifts their foot of the accelerator pedal. The condition could happen again as the vehicle slows down to 15 MPH (24 KPH) with the no accelerator input a second bump may be felt.

II. Vehicle coasting between 3MPH (4 KPH) and 15 MPH (24 KPH) with no accelerator pedal input and the driver steps on the accelerator pedal a bump or jerking feeling may be felt.

Updating the software will correct the conditions listed above.

DIAGNOSIS:

Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH(TM)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all engine and transmission systems are functioning as designed. If DTC's are present other then the one listed above record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin. If the above condition is present, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.

NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

1. Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical > Electronic Control Modules - Service Information > Module - Powertrain Control > Standard Procedures > PCM Programming. After reprogramming, the following must be performed:

a. Clear any DTC's that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.

2. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label" and attach it near the VECI label.
