Body - Excessive R/H Fender To Fascia Gap

SUBJECT:
Excessive Right Fender To Fascia Gap And Right Headlamp Not Centered In Fascia Opening

OVERVIEW:
This Bulletin involves inspection of the right front fender to fascia gap and the right headlamp centered in the fascia opening. Adjustment of the fender support bracket may be needed to repair the fascia gap and headlamp alignment.

MODELS:

2010 (MK) Patriot

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to Right Hand Drive vehicles built between June 26, 2010 (MDH0626XX) and September 01, 2010 (MDH0901XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Right front fender to fascia gap excessive and the right headlamp not centered in the fascia opening.

This condition is caused by the right front fender support being out of alignment.

DIAGNOSIS:

1. Inspect the right front fender to fascia gap and the right headlamp is centered in the fascia opening.

2. Is the right fender to fascia gap excessive and the right headlamp not centered in the fascia opening?

a. Yes >>> Perform the repair procedure.

b. No >>> Return the vehicle to customer or inventory.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the front fascia. Refer to the detailed removal procedures available in: DealerConnect > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 13 Frame and Bumpers > Fascia, Front.

2. Remove the Right Headlamp Unit. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in: DealerConnect > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 08 Electrical > 8L Lamps and Lighting > Unit, Headlamp > Lamp.





3. Remove screws from upper radiator cross member right side (Fig. 1).





4. With the upper radiator cross member screws removed the holes should be misaligned slightly (Fig. 2).





5. For a safe and controlled method for realigning the front end sheet metal. Position a pull strap in area shown in (Fig. 3).





6. Pull strap in direction of black arrow (Fig. 4). A "pull bench, come-a-long, portable winch, porta-power hydraulic system, or other equipment can be used to generate the required force to strap.

CAUTION:
Do not damage surrounding welds

NOTE:
In the case where an anchor point or pulling device is not available a Frame Machine can be used to pull frame as described.





7. Apply force to pull strap until holes align with force removed from strap (Fig. 5).

8. Install upper radiator cross member screws.

9. Reinstall Headlamp Unit. Refer to the detailed installation procedures available in: DealerConnect > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 08 Electrical > 8L Lamps and Lighting > Unit, Headlamp > Lamp.

10. Reinstall Front Fascia. Refer to the detailed installation procedures available in: DealerConnect > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 13 Frame and Bumpers > Fascia, Front.
